How Brain-Based Neurology & Posture Works
How is it that medications, designed to specifically handle specific symptoms, don’t get rid of the pain? Or being active is the ‘thing’ to do, but re-injuries or pain in certain parts of the body stop us from being active? Despite their young age, many young people have ‘old people’ problems? Why is something as easy as sleeping and being focused is so difficult to do? If you ever wondered about these things or you directly relate to some of these questions, then explore what Brain-based Neurology and Posture is all about!
Did you know that your nervous system (consisted of your brain, extension of the brain called the spinal cord and the spinal nerves) is the very first system that is formed in the fetus? It is first because the nervous system controls everything in your body from your hormones, movement, and how the body communicates- I mean everything in your body! It’s the command center where the command is sent to the body parts and they communicate back to the brain for further instruction and coordination.
Taking the brain and how it sends its command out of the equation is simply not the smartest thing to do and that is exactly what is happening in our healthcare system. Let’s keep in mind that here, we are going to concentrate on the brain and its role with your posture. As a side note, let’s remember that most issues that lead to the daily doctor’s visits and staying off work have to do with your muscles, joints and bones (your posture) and your posture is a reflection of how your whole body moves. Health is in movement, and posture is the end result.
How Brain Based Neurology & Posture Works
The brain’s main purpose is for you to have the most pleasant day given what we throw at it and for you to live a long life. Talking about the unconditional love that so many seek, here I tell you that you are born with something that loves you unconditionally.
Not all dis-eases and diseases cause pain. For instance, there is no pain with diabetes, no pain with high blood pressure, no pain with the leaky gut syndrome, no pain with depression, no pain with lack of energy and yet all of these are great examples of unhealthy conditions. Looking to the presence of pain as the only signal to a problem, therefore is not the best way to avoid health problems
BRAIN FACTS:
- Your brain controls the body, so its health is absolutely crucial in the health of you.
- Positive stimuli impact the brain positively, and negative stimuli impact it negatively (Positive and Negative Neuroplasticity).
- Brain Cortex Shrinkage (with regards to posture) happens if a specific part of your body does not move. For example, if you have a sedentary lifestyle, you have hurt yourself working out; or something as simple as reaching to grab something from the backseat of your car and hurting your shoulder. This leads to certain parts of your body and posture to not do their movement as they are designed to do. This causes the part of the brain that is in charge of that movement to shrink. Just like if you don’t use your biceps, they get weak and if you fully avoid using it, it atrophies. We see this shrinkage on the motor homunculus easily (map of the brain related to all of our body parts). Once the shrunken brain part is correctly activated, it comes back to how it needs to be and the proper movement and posture is restored.
Diagnosis & Examination: What to Expect
With brain-based neurology and posture exam, up to 79 different tests of the brain are conducted (these tests do not involve radiation or special tools). The weak parts of the brain that lead to certain weakness and failure of your posture are identified. I explain to you exactly what you need to do and as I preform the tests. I also highlight the areas/portions of your brain with regards to your posture that are weak. The weak parts simply won’t send the full command to the body part. The body part won’t perform the task, and as a result the movement of that body part fails. The end result is postural shifts and patterns that lead to lack of proper function, pain and injuries. Each test has an associated score and the final Neural Capacity score gives you the baseline of your brain and postural performance. Your baseline postural image is then taken, later measured and shared with you for future reference. Before starting the treatment, and if you wonder “is brain based postural neurology right for me”, all findings are explained, short term goals and expectations are discussed, and the steps necessary to attain your goal will be spelled out.
Brain Based Neurology & Posture Treatment
The treatment involves activating the weak brain parts with exercises I assign to you based on your findings. These exercises will be shown to you and you get to practice with me and my team and then practice at home. This is similar to walking a path over and over to create a track. You are encouraged to take a picture of the list of these exercises and to video record them, should you choose to do so. When doing these exercises at the clinic, your negative tendencies are recorded and you are alerted to watch out for them when performing them at home. There are no stones unturned and all questions are answered. We will guide you and are here for you through the process. We can now create positive neuroplasticity (positive brain changes) bringing the ‘weak’ brain part(s) up to par. Now that the command center can send the full command to the body part(s), the body parts get to do the work they know and the initial stage of postural correction gets established.
