Are you tired of dealing with heartburn and taking antacids after every meal? What if I told you that correcting your posture and breathing could help? Many people fail to realize that posture is not about aesthetics, but it has a significant impact on many aspects of our health including digestion! Keep reading to find out if your posture is contributing to your heartburn and what exercises you can do to start seeing a difference.

Connection Between Posture and Digestion

Imagine yourself slouched over a desk or hunched forward while scrolling through your phone. This common posture, where the shoulders round forward and the back curves unnaturally, not only places excessive strain on your muscles and joints. More critically, it compresses your internal organs. Your digestive system, for example, suffers as your stomach and intestines become compressed, potentially leading to issues such as acid reflux, constipation, bloating, and overall poor digestion.

Furthermore, the lungs can’t fully expand when you’re hunched over, limiting oxygen intake and making breathing less efficient. Your ability to breathe correctly (biologically) is directly related to your digestion! In the sections below I’ll show you how to improve your breathing for better digestion and how to start correcting your posture.

They Key to Improved Digestion: Biological Breathing

Your internal organs all sit between your thoracic diaphragm (the diaphragm at chest level) and your pelvic diaphragm. As discussed in the section above, poor posture compressed this space impacting digestion and even breathing! The best way to improve the mobility of essentially smashed internal organs is by practicing biological breathing in which the two diaphragms exchange pressure back and forth! Watch the video below to see how it’s done correctly!

Correcting your breathing is only step one of what it takes to start improving your posture and having better digestion. For more posture correction exercises make sure to subscribe to my YouTube Channel and follow me on Instagram for daily posture and health tips!
